A STUDY VISIT TO HELSINKI

Impressions

the eyes to see a country

growing teamwork

getting friends

new horizons

Getting to know teachers from other countries, schools and school systems is more enrichment than I would have ever thought possible. It's hard to explain.

You go home with new impressions and ideas, try out some new methods, and suddenly your students find you "cool" and you yourself feel full of energy, motivated to try out more new ideas.

Although my English is poor - languages are not my strong point - I learnt a lot. I was so pleased to be understood and that I myself was able to follow the conversation. And I tell my students how great it is to be able to speak the language - and they believe me, realizing that I'm right.

Schools in Finland are more advanced than ours. Wherever we went there was at least one computer in each classroom, ready to lead the students into the realms of the world wide web.

It goes without saying that students have their lunch together, that's the law.

Not everything is better - but its worth to think it over.

(Guido from Rome in the picture on top, holding binoculars: We visited the "nature-school" on the island of Harrara, which is situated ahead of Helsinki. It is reached by boat in only few minutes: A really exciting "classroom" to understand nature by seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting. )
