March 4th, 1999 - In a public Usenet forum we found what seems to be a press release of CESNUR referring to dr. Introvigne being interviewed by the magazine Cronaca Vera. We have never received this press release from the Center, neither have we found it in its web site, so we can not be sure of its genuineness. We feel, however, to complete dr. Introvigne's right to reply, and invite the CESNUR to send us a copy of it. |

"Earlier this week one of the cheapest Italian tabloids, "Cronaca Vera", published an "interview" with Dr. Massimo Introvigne "revealing" that the Catholic Church had entrusted him with the task of "watching Satanists" and "fighting Satan" in South-Eastern Italy (and praising him for this "brave" activity!). The anti-CESNUR Web site of Dr Miguel Martinez immediately translated passages from the article in several languages. On March 1, 1999 CESNUR's lawyers sent warning letters to both "Cronaca Vera" and Mr. Martinez. On March 2, 1999 the Italian tabloid "Cronaca Vera" replied to the warning letter of CESNUR's lawyers undertaking to publish a correction and "full denial" on their next issue of March 16,1999. "Cronaca Vera" does not deny that the "interview" was entirely invented and that Dr Introvigne never spoke to them. They claim it was an attempt to "get a larger audience acquainted with Dr. Introvigne's work", by using a journalistic technique intended for"simple folks". Invented interviews are not uncommon in tabloids. What is bizarre is that anti-cultists (who seem to be avid readers of such literature) took the pseudo-interview quite seriously.
