Wahlen im Irak
Ende Jänner sollen die ersten freien Wahlen für ein irakisches Übergangsparlament stattfinden. Hussain Ali Bawa beschäftigt sich mit den Chancen und Risiken, die sich aus diesen Wahlen ergeben. Werden die Wahlen angesichts der anhaltenden Gewalt im Zentralirak überhaupt wie geplant über die Bühne gehen können? Welche Folgen können die Wahlen für das zukünftige politische System des Irak haben? Welche Positionen vertreten die Parteien in Bezug auf den Föderalismus und das Verhältnis zwischen Staat und Religion?
Hussain Ali Bawa wurde in Kirkuk geboren und lebt seit 1976 als Politikwissenschafter in Österreich. Er beschäftigte sich dabei intensiv mit der Ideologie und Herrschaft der Ba´th-Partei, sowie mit Fragen des Föderalismus und der Demokratisierung des Irak. Im Buch Irak Von der Republik der Angst zur bürgerlichen Demokratie sind zwei Beiträge von ihm erschienen.
