Am Beispiel von vier im Exil lebenden Frauen schildert der Film „Kopftuch als System“ das Schicksal vieler Iranerinnen, die seit der islamischen Revolution 1979 einer strikten Geschlechterapartheid, Diskriminierung und der Durchsetzung der Zwangsverschleierung unterworfen sind. Das Kopftuch stellt dabei nicht nur Symbol und Mittel islamisch-patriarchaler Herrschaft dar, sondern dient zugleich als Machtinstrument der Kontrolle und der Bekämpfung von Widerstand gegen die islamische Herrschaft im Iran. Dargestellt nicht als bloße Opfer, sondern als Individuen mit ihren je eigenen Formen des Widerstandes gegen die Unterdrückung im Iran, porträtiert der Film vier Frauen, die im Exil in Deutschland leben und dabei ihre eigenen Lebenswege und -erfahrungen wider den Kulturrelativismus zum Ausdruck bringen.
Fathiyeh Naghibzadeh ging vor über 20 Jahren aus dem Iran ins Exil nach Deutschland, sie studiert Gender Studies und Erziehungswissenschaften an der Humboldt-Universität Berlin und arbeitet als Erzieherin.
