Filmretrospektive "Verpflichtung als Zeitzeuge" Von 11.-15. Jänner 2010 findet zum fünften Mal die Filmretrospektive im Metro-Kino in der Johannesgasse 4, 1010 Wien statt.
Hommage an Artur Brauner
Artur Brauner, geboren 1908 in Lodz, war ein Überlebender der NS-Judenverfolgung und ist seit über 60 Jahren Produzent von mehr als 20 deutschsprachigen Filmen über die Shoah, über das Überleben, über den mörderischen Antisemitismus und auch über dessen Folgen nach 1945.
Die Fimretrospektive zeigt fünf herausragende Spielfilme, die auf wahren Begebenheiten basieren und unter Mitwirkung oder auf der Grundlage persönlicher Erinnerungen Überlebender entstanden.

Die Filme werden jeweils durch einen kurzen Vortrag des Kurators der Filmreihe, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Frank Stern (Institut für Zeitgeschichte der Universität Wien) eingeleitet. Nach den Filmvorführungen gibt es die Möglichkeit zur Diskussion.

Artur Brauner, geboren 1908 in Lodz, war ein Überlebender der NS-Judenverfolgung und ist seit über 60 Jahren Produzent von mehr als 20 deutschsprachigen Filmen über die Schoah, das Überleben, den mörderischen Antisemitismus und auch über dessen Folgen nach 1945.
Manche seiner Filme wie HITLERJUNGE SALOMON oder ZEUGIN AUS DER HÖLLE sind einem größeren Publikum bekannt, doch viele bewegende filmische Auseinandersetzungen, deren Ideen von ihm stammen und die er als Produzent gefördert und realisiert hat, sind weitgehend unbekannt geblieben. Es sind Filme, die wunde Stellen im Zeitbewusstsein, in der Erinnerung berühren, Filme die sich dem Vergessen entgegensetzen und Filme, die sich aktuellen Fragen von Schuld und Verantwortung stellen. Der Film kann, wie Artur Brauners persönliches Engagement zeigt, eine „Verpflichtung als Zeitzeuge“ übernehmen und heutige Generationen erreichen. Diese Verpflichtung bestimmt 2009 die Retrospektive am Mauthausen Memorial vor den Mauern des ehemaligen Konzentrationslagers.
Die Retrospektive, kuratiert von Univ.-Prof. Dr. Frank Stern vom Institut für Zeitgeschichte der Universität Wien, zeigt fünf herausragende Spielfilme. DER LETZTE ZUG, BABIJ JAR und VON HÖLLE ZU HÖLLE sind von Artur Brauner als eine in sich geschlossene Trilogie bezeichnet worden. Sie handeln von der Deportation Berliner Jüdinnen und Juden, dem Massaker an der jüdischen Bevölkerung in der Nähe Kiews und dem Pogrom an der jüdischen Bevölkerung nach der Befreiung im Juli 1946 in Kielce. Die Retrospektive fügt dem als vierten Film MORITURI hinzu, den Artur Brauner unmittelbar nach der Befreiung drehte und der in den letzten Tagen der NS-Herrschaft spielt. ZU FREIWILD VERDAMMT beschreibt, als abschließender fünfter Film der Retrospektive, die Flucht eines jüdischen Mädchens vor der nach Kriegsbeginn einsetzenden Judenverfolgung in Polen.
