Online-Protest gegen Softwarepatente Nach anhaltenden Protesten gegen die Einführung einer EU-Richtlinie zu Softwarepatenten (der WebStandard berichtete) wurde die Abstimmung nun darüber verschoben. Sie soll nun entweder in der Woche vom 22. bis 26. September oder zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt stattfinden, wie heise online in Berufung auf eine Sprecherin des europäischen Parlaments berichtet.

Zuvor sind tausende Webseiten - darunter auch große Projekte wie KDE und GNOME - einem Aufruf der Eurolinux/FFII-Allianz zu einer Online-Demonstration gegen die geplante Richtlinie gefolgt, und haben ihre Seiten temporär gesperrt. Zusätzlich sind am Mittwoch mehrere hundert DemonstrantInnen in Brüssel gegen den Entwurf auf die Straße gegangen
Widerspruch
Auch eine Gruppe von namhaften englischen Wissenschaftern hatte sich in einem offenen Brief gegen die Verabschiedung der Richtlinie ausgesprochen, da diese zu einer massiven Wettbewerbsverzerrung führen würde. Die Ansammlung von Patenten würde es großen Firmen erleichtern kleine aus dem Markt zu drängen. (red)
